Debbie
Rayburn
Debbie Rayburn was saved at an early age and began singing at
her small church in Monaville WV (Logan County). One night her
church hosted a “Singing Convention” and a local group by the
name of the “Evangeleers” heard that Debbie sang a song they
performed called “Come Spring.” Debbie was about 8 years old
when the group called her up on the platform to sing the song
with them. The rest is history. She has been singing gospel
music ever since. She sang with several groups in the Logan area
before moving to Charleston in 1994 because of a merger within
the bank she was employed by. She soon found a home church at
the Charleston Mountain Mission and quickly became a member of
their awesome choir. She also sang there as a soloist on many
occasions but missed the harmony of singing with a trio. She
approached Crystal Godbey and Wesley Muncy about organizing a
trio and, in 1999, “Justified” was formed. Debbie’s husband Sid,
who became a born again Christian in 2002 (Debbie had prayed for
his salvation for 24 years), travels with the group when his
work schedule allows it. They are the parents of Meredith Dillon
and Brent Rayburn and have one Granddaughter, Sydney. The Lord
blessed Debbie with the ability to pen a song by the name of “It
Could Have Been Me,” which won a Song Writer’s Contest judged by
the Legendary Dottie Rambo. Justified was blessed to have been
able to perform the song as the opening act at one of Dottie’s
concerts. She has since written several other songs and thanks
the Lord for stirring up the gift that is within her.
Joy
McCutcheon
After accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior at age
six, Joy began standing up in front of youth services at the
Charleston Mountain Mission to quote scriptures or to sing. By
age 7, she and her sister began singing together as the
McCutcheon Sisters traveling to various area churches as well as
singing in their home church. Joy has always had a love of music
and singing. Since that young age, she’s had a dream of one day
singing in a group that would travel and minister the gospel in
song.
Throughout her school years her musical interest was
primarily the trumpet, yet she still had a desire to sing. Doors
began to open for Joy to sing and travel while attending Liberty
University. After graduating from college God continued to use
Joy. At first it was playing the trumpet for praise teams and
soloing specials at church, but it also included directing youth
and adult choirs and leading praise and worship for church
congregations. Joy first recorded instrumentally and vocally in
1989 with the New Life Church praise team of Charleston, WV. Her
next recording experience was as a soloist with the Christ
Temple Church choir of Huntington, WV in 1991. From there the
Lord took Joy and her family to Columbus, OH, and in 1995 she
sang with the front line praise team at Rod Parsley’s World
Harvest Church.
Although primarily singing praise and worship style music
throughout her adult life, southern gospel was still her roots.
In February, 2005, life’s circumstances and the Lord’s direction
brought Joy full circle to the church where she grew up. Ties
with the Charleston Mountain Mission had never been totally
severed, because her parents had continued to attend the church
over the years. Not knowing what God had in store for the
future, retrospect confirms that God’s timing is always perfect.
From the time Joy first heard Justified, she said she felt a
spiritual connection. She attributed it to the friendship she
had shared with Crystal Godbey for so many years, yet it seemed
much deeper. Not fully understanding the connection at the time,
she now knows it was God preparing her for this season in her
life. Two nights before God called him home, Wes Muncy called
Joy on the phone to say he needed her and would use her.
Although at the time they thought this referred to other things,
his exact words spoken to her proved to be a prophetic sign.
Later in 2005, Joy became a part of Justified.
Until the Lord sees fit to move differently, Joy teaches high
school math. Her heart and soul, however, is in raising her two
children, Stephanie and B.G., and with the ministry of
Justified. She says, “I can think of nothing else I’d rather do
than be a mom and minister to God’s people through music. I am
so blessed.”
Crystal Godbey
Crystal is a member of the Charleston Mountain Mission
Church. She was saved when she was ten years old and has been
active in God’s work ever since. After teaching Mathematics in
Kanawha County schools for 28 years, she now is the Kanawha
County Mathematics Curriculum Specialist for grades 6-12.
She has been married to Ron for 31 years and has a son
Nathan, daughter Tiffany and son-in-law Shaun. She also has a 2
year old granddaughter, Lillionna Grace. Crystal’s parents are
Henry and Oreda O’Daniels.
Crystal loves singing the “low part” in Justified and her
favorite verse is Romans 8:28.
Jeanell Muncy
I was saved at the age of 16. I started playing the organ for
the church that I was raised in at the age of 17. I married
Wesley Muncy at the age of 19 and introduced him to southern
gospel music. Shortly after we married he started singing with a
quartet. 28 years later he joined Debbie and Crystal to start
“Justified”. I always supported his ministry. On March 17, 2005
God called him home. Not knowing what God had in store for me,
the girls encouraged me to stay with them and continue handling
the bookings and financial affairs. We decided to continue on
with Wesley’s plans and I started running the sound board.
Shortly after his death, God woke me up at 4:00 in the morning
with a song. I went to the piano and started writing. That was
the beginning. I have now written 10 songs and have 5 of them
recorded by “Justified”. Wesley and I were blessed with one
daughter, Lisa.. We were also blessed with a granddaughter,
Alyson Elizabeth “Aly”. Wesley had 4 wonderful months with Aly
before God called him home. I am now expecting a grandson this
summer.
